*This is PART 1 of a 4-part series “HELP AND HOPE for Struggling Students

The ‘Back to School’ flurry is upon us! In a few days, schools will re-open, teachers will have their classrooms back in order, students will be ready with new backpacks and parents will be happy to have regular routines in place.

Excitement will fill the air – but not for all families.

Unfortunately, there are many parents (and students) who dread this time of year…parents lying awake at night worrying about the weeks and months ahead:

  • Will the new teacher understand my child’s struggles?
  • How will my child handle the new classroom set up?
  • Will my child connect with new friends?
  • Is my child going to be bullied?
  • Will this be the year that my child finally is able to do his/her homework independently?
  • Does my child have a learning disability?

As a parent of a struggling student, how do you find HELP? Where do you go to find HOPE? Even in the midst of caring teachers, principals and educational assistants, how does a parent navigate the onslaught of homework, the mirage of notes and the continual outbursts of frustration? The great news is that in this new age of ‘brain information’, parents and students can be encouraged that the brain CAN change! There is HOPE!

As therapists trained by NILD Canada, we understand the dilemma that parents are facing and are committed to helping students build confidence and competence, one step at a time! Our therapy is a true therapy, not tutoring, in that it focuses on building efficient learning processes as opposed to focusing solely on content. NILD Educational Therapy® is skill-oriented, improving basic learning skills so students can learn and retain content. It teaches students how to think rather than what to think.

In the video clip that follows, you will hear testimonies from two sets of parents about how NILD Educational Therapy was the key to unlocking their child’s potential. Click here to see and hear their struggles and how they found HELP and HOPE:
