NILD Canada Annual Conference

April 12 - April 13

If intelligence is the ability to adapt to the environment, then in the educational realm, the development of our students’ cognitive skills should be our top objective.

Every day we all face countless choices with overwhelming options. Each decision requires us to rationally, systematically, prioritize the plethora of data and choose the best option for the greatest result. Well-developed thinking skills are essential to help us choose wisely.

To support our students in developing these skills, we must be equipped with the tools to mediate and encourage them to think about their thinking.

Did you know that…

“a modern person is exposed to more stimuli in a 24-hour period than medieval man was exposed to in his entire lifetime!” Beyond SmarterFeuerstein et al, 2010.

We are excited to share this theme of The Thinking Brain: Cognitive Strategies for Life at our 24th Annual Conference! We will unpack the cognitive functions and strategies that inform our thinking skills and those of our students. How does ‘blurred and sweeping perception’ or ‘episodic grasp of reality’ or ‘unsystematic search’ affect our everyday choices?

Our keynote speaker, Lorri Wilke, an expert in Feuerstein’s work on cognitive functions and the brain, will share her expertise with us, both theoretically and practically. We are certain that your toolbox will be filled with new strategies to support your students’ thinking skills.
