Being the  Resource Teacher trained in Search and Teach, I was able to support the Kindergarten and Grade One teacher with a tool for identifying children who may be struggling in learning to read.  Usually this identification step (called ‘Search’) was the information the teacher needs to confirm her concerns in the beginning of the school year.  The whole class was scanned so that children could be grouped to learn skills that they needed.  Together we planned a program for individual’s intervention through the use of the TEACH part of the Search and Teach kit.  Another benefit of having the program in the school is that I could train an EA to do some of the tasks with the students, and additional support and training was available all year long.  It was a team approach, which always benefits a child.
