Rx Workshops

Reading, Writing, and Math Intervention

Do you know students who do not have a diagnosis or a psycho-educational assessment, but do require some explicit support in reading, writing or math?

Our Rx Workshops are designed to train educators to provide intervention in reading, writing or math in an individual or small group setting.

Each workshop targets specific areas using NILD’s methods of mediation, Socratic questioning and dialogue to strengthen students’ cognitive functions and thinking skills. All of our Rx workshops include didactic and practicum learning experiences with hands-on, role-playing activities and lesson plan development.

Rx for Reading®

This training workshop takes the five essential components of reading – phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary and reading comprehension, which we call “strands of language” and weaves them into a language braid that is comprehensive, constructive, and creative.

This workshop systematically teaches participants the methodology to develop these components. The participant will learn to identify and assess student needs in basic reading and then utilize the group model Rx for Reading to effectively and efficiently develop decoding and encoding skills in their students.

Rx for Reading – Fundamentals

This training workshop provides JK to Grade 3 educators with foundational understandings from brain research on how reading develops from a biological and cognitive developmental perspective and the instructional implications. The training focuses on broadening educators’ conceptions of structured literacy instructional practices that support reading success for all learners. Educators will explore how reading impacts thinking and learning and examine the link between reading, spelling, and writing.

Successful completion of this workshop will enable educators to use evidence-informed strategies to teach students basic reading skills.

This training workshop is designed to train teachers, educational therapists and homeschool parents to provide mathematical intervention for students in Grades 6-8. Rx 4 Math II© student sessions are either one-on-one or in small group settings for 45 minutes, twice a week.

This workshop will enable the educator to facilitate deeper mathematical thinking for students by understanding how to strengthen students’ conceptual understanding, computational fluency, and mathematical reasoning skills by developing self-regulation and cognitive functions through a safe mathematical community where productive disposition, self-efficacy, a sense of belonging and mathematical exploration is encouraged.
